Questions I am asked

How do we get a return from AI, not another pilot?

Start with a problem you can measure

Start with a business problem you can measure, not with the tool. Pick one process where time, cost or errors show up in the numbers. Order intake, invoice matching, service ticket handling and onboarding are common starting points.

Set a baseline first

Write down today's cost, cycle time and error rate before anything changes. Agree a target with the person who owns the P&L. Give the project one owner with authority over the process, not only over the technology.

Run it for 90 days

Compare the results with the baseline each month. Count the full cost: licences, integration, training and the time your people spend checking the output.

Then decide

If the return is there, extend it to the next process. If it is not, stop and say so. A pilot that never ends is a cost, not an investment.

Three questions to ask before you start

  • Which number will move, and by how much?
  • Who owns that number?
  • What happens if it does not move in 90 days?

AI earns its place when it shows in the P&L. Everything else is activity.
